On Satuday 28th January 2012 the Knights took to the ice for their first game of the season. The Knights iced a whopping 19 skaters, something I don't think has even happened before, whilst the Chiefs travelled with just over two lines. The opening period set the standard of the game - which was fiesty, hard hitting and even a little dirty in places! The Chiefs took the opening period 3-0. In the second period the Knights started to use the extra legs on the bench to their advantage, and took the lead through Martin Rider at 31:43. The defence continued showing the forwards how to score with goals from Steve 'USA' Russell and a Matt Parkinson short handed goal saw the Knights end the second period trailing by 1, with the score line at 4-3 in favour of the Chiefs. The game was littered with penalties to both teams, which caused the Knights to lose of few goals at the start of the third as the Chiefs extended their lead. Netminder, Stuart Long was worked hard and kept the Knights in contention, but they simply didn't make enough chances at the other end.

The game finish 7-3, which is actually one of the better losing scores the Knights have had against an experienced Chiefs team. Debuts went to Matej 'Bojangles' Bojnansky, Brendan Rose, and his first ever game, Daniel Frings.

Champions of the EIHA Rec section!

Knights victorious at Sheffield!

The Invicta Knights recreational Ice Hockey team returned as champions from the annual Tournament at Sheffield.

For the second time in three years the Knights overcame challenges from 14 other teams to take the title in style.

Wins against Eastern All Stars, Peterborough Phoenix and Sheffield Blaze and just the one loss to Blackburn Falcons on Saturday was enough to see them qualify for Sunday’s Championship games.

A hard game against the eventual runners up Bradford led to a 1:0 victory for the Knights in their first game early on Sunday and was followed by revenge over Blackburn with another 1:0 win in their second.

A tense match against the Royal Navy team was looking like a draw until the Knights scored with just 5 seconds left!

The final game against Whitley Bay was a nail biter with the Knights needing just a draw to lift the cup.  They had other ideas though and came out attacking from the first whistle with the best hockey that they had played all weekend.  A 3:0 final score line demonstrated their dominance and led to much praise from their opponents.

Captain Tim Bill led the celebrations as he raised the cup above his head and Knights’ Sami Kasteniemi received the defenceman of the tournament trophy, an extra birthday present for him!

Team Manager Bill Parkinson said that “this was a brilliant team effort by a mixture of veteran and young players who thoroughly deserved the title for their commitment over the weekend both on and off the ice.  A special mention must go to ex Invicta Dynamos’ netminder Murray Tester who maintained a shut out in 6 of the 8 games played over the weekend!”

Good turnout against the Swindon Panthers yesterday guys - if only they hadn't scored more than us we would have beat them!

For those of you who were not there we lost 9-4 with goals from Rats - (great goal!)Rider, Craig and Grubeeeerrrrr (flukey goal!). Despite a poor start (as always guys!) with 2 goals down inside 3 minutes we did pull it back a bit and played some good hockey.

Dont forget that we have home games for the next two Sundays - 5:15 face off - 23rd against Streatham Chiefs and 30th against Slough Satans.
