Knights v Slough Tornados

INIHC LogoPage Title : Match Report

The first game of the season was set to be a challenging experience for the new look Knights. Their opposition, The Slough Tornadoes, are a well-established and experienced team who won the 98/99 Southern Cup and came 4th overall at the Telford Tournament. This was set to be a tough game which would show the Knights what would be required of them to finish well in this years Southern Cup.

After a 15-minute delay, due to a lack of officials, the Tornadoes started quickly with a goal inside the first minute. Then four minutes into the game the Knights defenceman John Jeffery stopped awkwardly at the gate on a line change, and badly broke his left leg. John has recovered well, and has started physio after a four-day spell in hospital and an operation to insert a metal rod into the leg. All of the team and supporters would like to wish him a speedy recovery. The game resumed after John was taken to hospital, and the Knights with only three defencemen held the score to 3-1 to the Tornadoes.

After two unanswered goals from Slough early in the second, two quick goals from the knights put Slough back on their heels, and with good pressure from the Knights, producing a breakaway goal by Grant Baxter, to take the score to 5-4 it looked like they could make a come back. However halfway through the second the Tornadoes experience showed as a flurry of goals went passed the stretched Knights defence. The Slough lead was to be lengthened even more in the third as the pace did not slow, and the final score saw Slough the victors by 14 goals to 6, in this spirited and high paced game
