The First
away game of the season was to become a less friendly than most challenge
matches, with 43 minutes of penalties to the Chargers, but only 12 to the
well disciplined Knights. The game itself however was a very close affair,
after the Knights came back to tie up the first period 3-3, after scoring
first, short-handed and then conceding two goals in under five minutes.
The second period saw the Knights go into the lead on the powerplay, with the Chargers captain serving a double minor for roughing. It was from the box that he watched most of the game, until in the third period he was given a 5+game, again for roughing as he tried to punch the Knights players who were still on their bench. The third period was played as a controversial 15 minute running clock period, in which the Chargers tried everything to score the tying goal, after an unusual goal which hopped over the netminders stick, left the score 5-6. The Knights however soaked up the pressure with some strong defensive play and took their first win of the 99/2000 season.
