| This game was
scheduled to be the home return against the Chelmsford Chargers however
due to coaching demands they had to pull out. This left a short time to
find a replacement team, a gap into which the Basingstoke Hyenas were
happy to fill. The Hyenas found themselves a little short on numbers so
due to the short notice, so players were seconded from the other
Basingstoke team, the Cougars.
The Hyenas started the scoring at 5:36 but the Knights replied quickly with Grant Baxter scoring at 6:02. This started a rather stand-offish first period as the Hyenas requested a non-checking match. This lead to some degree of uncertainty as to how much physical play could be condoned. All was sorted out by the end of the period, and a 1-3 lead to the Hyenas saw the end of the period. With no penalties in the second period play started to open up, however only three goals, 2 to Basingstoke and 1 to the Knights, left the Knights 5-2 down. Although out scoring Basingstoke 5-4 in the Knights could not overcome the damage caused in the first period. Most of the play throughout the game was in the Hyenas end, and the netminder, borrowed from the Cougars saw 63 shots. This shows the pressure the Knights applied, and even on a 4 min powerplay, their on-form netminder could not be beaten. However with a face off deep in the Hyenas zone, a shot from Grant Baxter, wide of the goal deflected off their defencemans skate and went in behind the netminder at 59:47. This saw the end of a challenging and well paced game.
