Southern Cup 2000 1st Round Group B

This is the first time the Knights have played back to back games on a weekend, and after a hard game on the Saturday against the US Air Force away the Knights have to face another team they have not played before the Streatham Chiefs.

The first period started quickly with the Chiefs going into an early lead after scoring 4 goals in eight minutes. But the knights fought back, with goals from the usual suspects, Martin Rider, Simon Rawlins and Grant Baxter, and after a good passing play between Martin Rider and defenceman Tony Wood, Tony scored to bring the periods scoring to an end with the Chiefs up 5-4.

The Knights now with the momentum on their side came out strong in the second but again were plagued by a succession of penalties which left them short-handed for most of the period. This allowed the Chiefs to stretch their lead to 9-5, scoring another 4 goals to the Knights 1 in the period.

By the third period the Knights though Saturday game was starting to show, and in order to rest some players the third line were able to knock up some ice time. However, the Chiefs would not slow down, and with 5 unanswered goals in the third, they took a 14-5 win away to the Knights in the first leg of the Cup.
