2000 1st Round Group B
The second home game for the Knights in the Southern Cup saw the return of the Chelmsford Nighthawks to the Ice Bowl. A team that the Knights had played before and with some success, although not quite getting the win. The Nighthawks were short of some players due to suspension, in their loss to the USAF last weekend, which may work to the Knights advantage. Unfortunately for the Knights, the Nighthawks had some new players and started well scoring three goals in 22 seconds after a slash to Tony Wood depleted the already stretched defence, and saw Darren Keen taking his place and playing well with the other two regular defencemen. The end of the period saw a Chelmsford lead of 4-0. The second saw much of the same, as the Knights still had no answer to the passing and marksmanship of the Chelmsford squad, as they increased their lead to 9-0 through 5 different scorers. This showed the depth of the enhanced Nighthawks team and despite numerous good scoring chances, the Knights could still not solve the Chelmsford netminder. The final period saw some good play from Hass Baig in goal as he faced 46 shots on goal as the Nighthawks laid siege in the Knights end. However, for the first time this season the Knights forwards have been shutout, as the Nighthawks rallied to a 15-0 win at the end of the 60 minutes.
