| The
first home game for the Knights in this year's Summer Cup saw the return
of the Streatham Chiefs to the Ice Bowl. A team that the Knights had
played before and with some success, although not quite securing a
win. The Chiefs were short of one of their main goal scorers due to
a suspension, and the Knights saw this as a good chance to steal some
points. Especially after the Chiefs dubious win at Steatham in the
first Summer Cup game for both teams, when some very inept time-keeping
kept the Knights away from an assured win.
The Knights came out stong for the first period, determined to take the Chiefs by surprise, and although not scoring first, finished the period 2-1 up. First by equalising shorthanded, and then after a tape to tape outlet pass from the defence, sent Mark Wyborn away for an easy goal one on one with the Streatham netminder. The second period saw the role reverse with Streatham now having the upperhand to go into the third leading 5-4. The Knights however, did not let up, and Mark Wyborn (4+0) converted a penalty shot after Martin Rider was pulled down as he went in on goal. The Knights kept the score tight, but after a run of penalties, which allowed the Chiefs to open a two goal lead, time was running out. With just under three minutes to go, the Knights struck with a good solo effort from Grant Baxter (goal credited to M Rider) pulling it back to 7-8. The Chiefs obviously nervous of the Knights scoring potential at this point closed the Knights down by continuously icing the puck, taking the game to an end.
