Match Report

The Knights squad had been strengthened this year by the signing of Ex – Dynamo forward Paul Hume & also older brother Joel.  International signings soon followed with Cody McBride & Ryan Beech from Canada & Juha Kommonen from Finland.  Returning Brits are, Mark Graham & Richie Myers.

The Knights first game of the 2005/2006 season opens with the return of the Westminster Statesmen…….

The scoring opened at the Ice Bowl in the 1st period with a short-handed goal from Paul Hume, assisted by Neil Ratcliffe.  The goal came after a costly “Too many men” penalty which saw the Statesmen reply with a goal, but the Knights answered back with their 2nd goal, again by the Paul & Neil duo with a defenceman’s assist going to Darren Chapman.  The third goal breezed in past the Statesmen goalie scored by Cody McBride, assisted by both Petr Popluhar & defenceman Darren Keen. Two more goals from each side & a bucket full of penalties put the Knights ahead 4-2 at the end of the 1st period….

The 2nd period saw a loss in discipline from both sides & with the Statesmen scoring 3 goals & the Knights scoring 1.  This meant that the period ended 5-5.

The 3rd period saw a further goal each from both Neil & Paul with 2 further goals from the Statesmen.  The Statemen’s Greg Comrie dropped his gloves in an altercation with Knight’s player Mark Graham which resulted in Greg’s early departure from the game.  With the score tied in the final 6 minutes, Bob Jacobs made a pass to Paul Hume who in turn played the puck to Neil Ratcliffe who let the shot go which whistled past the Statesmen goalie to end the game…..
