Match Report

The first game of the season was here at last with the Westminster Statesmen and having a few players still waiting their Player Licences, they could only watch from the sidelines, whilst a “Short Bench” commenced with the Season’s opening game………

The first period saw plenty of shots on Knights goalie Andrejs Zukovskis with the first goal coming from the Statesmen in the first 3 minutes of the game.  A further goal at 8.32 put the Knights under considerable pressure to open the scoring….. this came seconds from the end of the 1st period when defenceman Darren Chapman made a cross ice pass to Veteran, Neil Ratcliffe who skated up the ice & fired the puck home.

Penalties came thick & fast in the 2nd period showing a lack of discipline with the Statesmen racking up over 20 minutes in penalties…… Goals came from both sides when Neil Ratcliffe found the net for a second time, evening up the scoreline.  The Statesmen replied with a goal to edge ahead, but this was evened up again when Anthony Moon made a pass to Darren Carter who in turn passed to Chris Spencer, who fired the puck past the goaltender…….

The third period saw intense play & a few more penalties from both sides and the Statesmen capitalised with the only goal, edging them forward to clinch the game……..
